A chance to celebrate all the best things about our beautiful county, Surrey Day takes place this Saturday (May 2) – but this year it will be going ‘virtual’. So, who better to evoke the flavours of Surrey over the airways and the internet than our very own Surrey-based Local Food Britain members?
During the course of the day, listeners to BBC Radio Surrey will be able to enjoy a gastronomic road trip around the county, starting with an early-morning chat with cheesemaker Michaela Allam from the dairy where she sources the milk for her Norbury Blue and Dirty Vicar cheeses, and ending with a guided tour around Dorking Brewery with owner Neel Singh. In between will be conversations with an array of local producers, farmers and vineyard owners, while Epsom chef Laura Scott takes up the challenge of recreating a long-lost bread recipe for historic Guildford manchets.
The full BBC Radio Surrey line-up will be:
0610 Tracy Carroll, Local Food Britain Founder and director of Visit Surrey
0650 Michaela Allam, Norbury Blue
0750 Patrick Deeley, Flower Farm
0850 Tim McEntire, Food Float
1030 and 1055 Ruth Macintyre, Ruth’s Little Kitchen
1210 Will Edwards, Priory Farm and The Salt Box
1320 Mandira Sarkar, Mandira’s Kitchen

Among other highlights of the day, there will be the chance to take part in virtual tours of museums, galleries and attractions; well-known names will be revealing what they love best about Surrey; and Guildford Cathedral and the town's historic Guildhall will be lit up green for the evening in homage to England’s most densely-wooded county.
The event is being hosted by the county's tourist board, Visit Surrey, in conjunction with BBC Radio Surrey and Surrey Life magazine.
