Weybridge exploded to town-size after the opening of its railway station in 1838 led to many housing developments springing up for London Waterloo-bound commuters.

Beatle John Lennon had a mansion on St. Geroge's Hill, Weybridge in the late 1960s and fellow-Beatle Ringo Starr lived here too. Mercedes-Benz World and the Brooklands Museum are testament to the town's motor-racing heritage, as is the presence of Eurotax Glass' producer of Glass's Guide. Many well-known stores line the town's Edwardian High Street which ushers traffic over the River Wey. Big hitters from the world of industry and commerce include Sony, Procter & Gamble and Toshiba. Surrey Wildlife Trust has recently 'refurbed' Weybridge Heath to preserve it as a habitat for many species of insects, especially ants.
