The Real Pie Company takes GOLD at the Great British Pie Awards 2015
Local Food Britain member The Real Pie Company is celebrating after collecting a top award at the Melton Mowbray British Pie Awards. The Sussex-based pie maker's Steak and Mushroom Pie scooped Gold in the category 'Beef & any Flavour combination Pie – to be eaten and judged hot.'
The Real Pie Company managing director Christine Cossins says, “Having got a Silver for our Chicken and Ham Pie last year and a Bronze for our Pasty we had high hopes we would go one better this year. But getting a Gold in the Steak category competing against over 100 other entrants is just brilliant.”
Based in Crawley, The Real Pie Company was founded 16 years ago. Brett Hornby, Commercial Operations Director, says, “Our ‘crammed to the crust’ philosophy means each hand crafted pie is packed with slow cooked British beef so the customers gets a ‘proper filled pie’ rather than a lot of hot air. Add a delicious gravy, a golden puff pastry crown and you have a winning combination. Just as real beer is enjoying a real revival with thousands of micro-brewers, the country is seeing a ‘pie renaissance’ and we are proud that the small pie makers are leading the charge.”
The company now produces hundreds of pies a day in over a dozen flavours. Their tasty high quality pies can been seen on TV on QVC, in supermarkets like the Southern Co-op and in many delis and farm shops across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. The Real Pie Company is in the process of expanding its premises to meet the rising demand.
