Cereal crops are grasses that produce an edible grain such as oat, rye, wheat, rice, maize, sorghum or millet and feature among the top 50 agricultural commodities in the world.
As well as providing the main food for most people living in the world, cereal grains in their natural form are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, oils and protein. Cereals were also the first wild plants to be picked by the Stone Age man and were man’s first crops.
Cereal crops grow in all parts of the world except very dry deserts and ice-capped poles. They are suited to Britain’s climate and the UK is one of the EU’s largest cereal crops producers. UK produced cereal crops include wheat, barley, oats, rye, linseed and oil seed rape. Find Cereals in London.
