The beautiful Thames-side village of Barnes in south west London is surprisingly close to central London but retains its unique feel. Based in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Barnes is known for its green and duck pond as well as its boutiques, cafés and pubs.

The village originally grew up around the ancient manor house of Barn Elms, which was owned by the canons of St Paul’s Cathedral, and was known for its market gardening. Food is still a big part of the area’s offer with The Barnes Food Fair having taken place in September over the past three years. The one day charity event raises funds for Homestart and the Lowther School Kitchen Garden Project and welcomes over 80 artisan food producers who gather in a grand marquee on the green.
