We have the Romans to thank for the introduction of the organised cultivation of cider in England, which the Normans then enhanced with their knowledge as cider became the drink of choice of the people.
London was originally made up of market gardens featuring many varieties of apple orchards. As a result, cider has been made in and around London for hundreds of years.
Although the fruity beverage fell out of favour for several decades, it is now making a comeback with a number of local, artisan cider brands blending their own home-grown cider apples using traditional methods to make proper craft cider once again.
