Picnic with a backdrop of history
Hever Castle and Gardens is well worth a visit. The childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the castle is open to the public and makes fascinating viewing. And when it comes to picnics, there's nowhere on earth like Hever Castle Gardens. Whether you want to sit on the lawns and admire the house, or hide away in the wooded areas, you can always find your own space at Hever Castle, no matter how busy it is. As well as the historic house, there's an extensive children's play area, boating on the lake and an amazing water maze which is guaranteed to get everyone giggling.
Fit for a king
One of our favourite picnic destinations in Kent is the fairytale Scotney Castle near Lamberhurst, which has a newly created woodland picnic area. Do save room for afternoon tea at the tea room and then pop to the shop for a bottle of Scotney Bitter and perhaps a jar of local honey produced by Scotney's very own bees.
Sun, sea and sandwiches
Kent is world-renowned for its beautiful beaches, from the imposing rock formations of Botany Bay to the Blue Flag family-friendly resort of Ramsgate. There's nothing like a picnic on a sandy shore to make it feel like a summer holiday, so pack up a basket and head to the coast. Make sure you leave room for the catch of the day, fresh from Kent's fleet of day fishing boats, or perhaps treat yourself to some of the county's famous oysters.
