Hidden away in the historic Tudor village of Chiddingstone, Kent, you’ll find the charming The Castle Inn which is just starting a brand new chapter.
Under new ownership since April 2019, this traditional English village inn promises great food and drink, a cosy interior with roaring fires and a pretty garden that’s perfect for soaking up the summer sunshine.
A grade II* listed building, which dates back to the early 15th century, The Castle Inn features many historic features such as the fireplaces, tiled floors, oak panelling and bars.
With a focus on local produce, freshly prepared food and a handpicked selection of wines, spirits and beers, including the much-loved Kentish real ales from Chiddingstone’s Larkins Brewery, The Castle Inn offers a real flavour of England.
Found opposite the village church, it is a proper country inn with a number of different rooms which make it just as appealing to people exploring the local attractions and on the hunt for a quick snack as it is for couples looking to enjoy a romantic date night.
There are a number of wonderful tourist attractions to visit in the area, including Chiddingstone Castle, Hever Castle and Penshurst Place, and many fascinating events, including Chiddingstone Literary Festival and Chiddingstone Real Football (look it up, it’s not for the faint-hearted!).
The village of Chiddingstone itself is owned by the National Trust and is considered to be one of the best-preserved Tudor villages in the country.
Scenes from the 1985 British romance film A Room with a View, which starred Helena Bonham Carter and Julian Sands and was based on EM Forster's novel of the same name, were famously shot in this pretty Kentish village.
History and heritage coupled with unpretentious but delicious food and drink in beautiful surroundings. What’s not to love?
Local Food Kent says
A pub that is at the very heart of its community and historic village, it's exciting to see a new chapter open for The Castle Inn in Chiddingstone.
The Castle Inn has all the ingredients to become a very special destination country inn and we look forward to seeing how things take shape in the next few months under the new ownership.
