Traditionally known as “The Garden of England”, the county of Kent in South East England is one of the home counties and borders Greater London, Surrey and East Sussex. The area has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic era with discoveries having been made of artefacts from the Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the Roman eras. It is also the door to France, with the name “Kent” derived from the Brythonic word ‘Cantus’ meaning rim or border.

Kent is renowned for its orchards ripe with apples, pears and cherries, and also has a rich history of beer making thanks to its plentiful hop fields. Its coastal towns have a reputation for seafood, while the countryside is made up of farms where everything from freshly picked vegetables to rapeseed oil to milk, lamb and beef can be found. It’s no surprise there are over 50 farmers’ markets in Kent where over 600 growers sell their locally-produced wares.
