Running his successful catering business, Four Gables Fine Dining, chef patron David Gillott knows the value of fresh, handmade food. After all, it's what brings his customers back time after time. A firm believer that we can all create impressive dishes using seasonal ingredients, David dreamed of establishing a cookery school in Surrey to give home cooks the opportunity to learn alongside chefs in a professional kitchen.
Learn to cook among friends in leafy Ashtead
In January 2012, he opened Four Gables Food Academy. Here, in tranquil countryside at Ashtead, Surrey, against a backdrop of beehives, David and his fellow chefs teach students of all ages and abilities. "It's all about taking good quality ingredients and learning fail-safe techniques," says the chef. "With our guidance, even nervous cooks develop confidence in the kitchen, especially when they see - and taste - the results of their day on one of our cookery classes."
As well as receiving an expert cookery lesson, students - who range from teens to grannies and grandads - enjoy meeting fellow food lovers. Taught in classes of just four to six people, the group sits down to a convivial lunch prepared by David or one of his fellow chefs.
Four Gables Food Academy offers an impressive menu of cookery courses, such as Fabulous Fish, Brilliant Baking and Dinner Party Delights. Those who aspire to cook authentic oriental food, Indian food and other aromatic cuisine are also well catered for; visiting expert chefs often lead these inspirational, hands-on classes.
Cookery course gift vouchers
Gift vouchers are available for all cookery demonstrations at the Four Gables Food Academy and these make great gifts for the special people in your life - whether the message is: "You're going to uni and I can't bear you to live off pizza!" or "Let's learn to cook together and have some fun."
