The multi-cultural large town of Woking is a loop on London's commuter belt in west Surrey with trains whizzing city workers into Waterloo station every 24 minutes.

It is home to 100,000 mostly-Conservative voters.  'Old Woking' is on the River Wey while the new Woking is a mile north west by the Basinngstoke Canal. Oriental Road's Islamic Shah Jahan Mosque is the oldest in England and stands colourfully in the midst of a large Pakistani community. There are also many Italians and Poles in Woking. The nearby Brookwood Cemetery houses those poor souls who could not get into a London cemetery and were transported by train by the London Necropolis Co. Big-name local companies include McLaren Group and Alent plc. Shopping opportunities abound at The Peacocks centre and Wolsey Place. H.G. Wells wrote The War of the Worlds when he lived in Woking.
