Brighton’s sea air, beautiful downs and forests have proven to be the perfect place to source wild venison and grass-fed Sussex beef for Sussex Gourmand to produce their award-winning artisan cured meats.
Launched by Liz Wakefield in 2016, they specialise in pairing their Sussex beef bresaola and Sussex venison bresaola with flavours of the field and forest to create exquisite canapé kits.
Quality and local provenance sits at the heart of Sussex Gourmand and this was recognised at the Great Taste Awards 2017 when their venison bresaola won two stars and their beef bresaola was awarded one star.
Their Sussex beef is naturally reared and sourced from local farms, including Saddlescombe Farm, while they say Sussex wild venison (mainly fallow and roe deer) is a finer, subtler meat than the red deer found in Scotland.
You can buy Sussex Gourmand's award-winning beef bresaola and venison bresaola at local farmers' markets and order kits online, which can be delivered free of charge in and around Brighton & Hove.
They also provide a personalised party service, augmenting their artisan meats with tastes of the sea and the allotment, including creative options for vegetarians.
