Family run Ballards Brewery was founded in 1980 by Mike Brown, a solicitor with a passion for real ale. The brewery was originally located in a cow shed on the family farm in Sussex and has continued to expand to its current location in Nyewood. All the beers are brewed using malted barley which is milled on the premises, English hops, yeast and water. No sugars or colourings are added, the only additive being isinglass finings, used to settle the yeast sediment in the cask. Draughts beers in casks can be delivered locally and bottled beers can be distributed nationwide.
Ballards award-winning beers are named after local towns, great for local pubs
Brewery tours can be planned for weekday evenings, giving you two hours in which to sample both the draught and bottled beers. Or, if you prefer, you can take an online tour on the website. This gives a step by step description of how the beers are brewed.
Local Food Sussex Says
Ballards Brewery award-winning beers can be purchased online with free local delivery to GU, BN and PO postcodes. Or call into the brewery and buy draught beer in 2 pint plastic containers, 9 pint minipins, 18 pint polypiggins, 36 pint polypins or 72 pint firkins. Now that's a great choice for anyone planning an event!
And why not join the Ballards Beer Walk which takes place each year on the first Sunday in December. With music and dancing, money is raised for a local charity and involves the local pubs, including The Elsted Inn.
