Based in Surrey, Just Because Treats was created by Jennifer Munson-Montanez who wanted to bring the delicious, indulgent South American flavours of her childhood to British food lovers.
Growing up in Caracas, which is Venezuela’s capital city, Jen enjoyed cooking a variety of delicious treats, including alfajores (melt-in-the-mouth shortbread-like cookies) and indulgent cakes, with her family.
Since leaving Venezuela at the age of 25, Jen and her recipes have travelled all around the world, eventually settling in England which she now calls home.
Her passion for making the sweet and light South American treats, alfajores (al-fa-ho-res), started at the age of 12 when she attended a cookery course run by a renowned Venezuelan chef.
Just Because Treats was launched in 2018 and since then Jen has been busy introducing her artisan alfajores and other South American treats to the people of Surrey and beyond.
If you're lucky, you may find her unique sweet treats in local independent cafés, including Aromas in Weybridge, and Jen can regularly be found at farmers' markets, including Ripley, Cobham and Walton-on-Thames, and food festivals around Surrey.
In fact, wherever possible, Just Because Treats’ products, which are naturally gluten-free, are often made using local ingredients from fellow farmers’ markets stallholders.
Just Because Treats indulgent alfajores are perfect for weddings, family occasions, employee perks and events, and Jen has a range of offers available for anyone looking to treat their guests.
Local Food Surrey says
One of the things that has made the British food and drink scene so exciting in recent decades is the magical effect international flavours and dishes have had in transforming it into one big melting pot of multicultural deliciousness. Alfajores may be a South American tradition, but Just Because Treats' versions are packed full of local ingredients.
Just Because Treats' alfajores are fantastic with a cup of your favourite coffee (continuing the South American theme, how about trying something from fellow Local Food Britain member Cafezinho Coffees, who roast their exclusive Brazilian coffees in the Surrey Hills?) at the end of the day.
