Fancy some top-notch food and great service at super-affordable prices? Then get yourself over to The Clink - the restaurant at the heart of High Down Prison. This not-for-profit eatery aims to reduce the rate of re-offending by training prison inmates to become professional chefs and maitre d’s.

What is special about your restaurant?

As well as the terrific food, our restaurant is special because of what it's helping the prisoners achieve. Many of the boys have gone on to work in top restaurants and hotels. Antonio Carluccio, The Clink ambassador, has employed some at his restaurant. Giorgio Locatelli visits regularly to try out recipes with the inmates, and works in the kitchen with them, as does two-Michelin starred Stephen Terry. Value is incredible, with a three-course meal costing around £20, and the feedback has been excellent.

How do you contribute to the local food scene?

Our ingredients are sourced locally and we are a 3 star member of The Sustainable Restaurant Association so you can be sure that ingredients such as fish come from a sustainable supply. We also train the inmates in horticulture so we can grow our own food for the kitchen.

"The thing I love most ... is seeing a prisoner being released into a job, that they are doing well and are unlikely to reoffend," says founder Al Crisci.
