East_Beach_Caf_x_300.jpgMaking a splash this summer

When it comes to finding a summer spot for a bite to eat, there can be few more idyllic locations than the East Beach Café in West Sussex.

Located in a beautiful building right on Littlehampton Beach, they serve fantastic local, seasonal produce – and, what is more, they are marking a very special anniversary this summer.

“We are turning 10 this June and will be celebrating all summer long,” says general manager Siabhon Jones. “The big event will be our birthday party on June 23. We’ll be hosting a three-course dinner with welcome canapés and a glass of fizz for just £38.50. Plus, there’ll be live music too. Come down and pay us a visit!”

Also new for this summer will be their Fish & Fizz events, taking place every Wednesday night from June 7 until July 12, 6-8pm, with the opportunity to enjoy a fresh fish dish and a glass of Prosecco for just £10. You can also add any pudding for £4.50.

Dinner is served every evening during the summer and Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the winter. Breakfast and lunch is served every day, with teas, coffees and cakes available in-between.

It’s hard to think of a better way to spend a beautiful summer’s evening than lighting up the barbecue – and at Deerview Fine Sussex Foods in Wivelsfield Green, West Sussex, they have the perfect accompaniments.

Among their mouth-watering range of condiments are their Hot Onion Chutney, Sticky Onion Chutney, BBQ Seasoning, Jerk Seasoning and Jumbleberry Preserve.

“Our Hot Onion Chutney has a lovely warming heat from chillies, perfect with sausages or in your burger,” says Graham Colombotti, co-owner of this family-run artisan company. “Then if you want to go the whole hog and create the perfect barbecue food, just rub some of our seasoning into your meat, with a bit of oil, to create a marvellous marinade.

“Finally, our Jumbleberry Preserve is the quintessential summer jam. Strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants make this jam perfect on scones or, alternatively, why not spoon a little over your ice cream as a delicious sauce.”

So now all we need is the sunshine!

A beautiful beer garden

One of our favourite things at this time of year is to head out to a nice pub garden, and this summer our destination of choice is the newly re-opened Castle Inn at Chiddingstone in Kent.

Steeped in history, this Grade II* listed building has been beautifully restored this year, making the most of the lovely period features, and all set off by the fantastic garden area.

Here, you will find a newly-revamped outdoor bar as well as new furniture and new planting.

We'll see you at the bar!

New for this month...

Best-known for Arnold’s Condiments in West Sussex, husband-and-wife team Simon and Karen Arnold have launched a new product just in time for summer.

Their organic raw sauerkraut not only tastes delicious but, according to Simon, also has health-promoting properties.

"A large percentage of shop-bought sauerkraut is pasteurised, but our pure, fermented sauerkraut is not," he explains. "This means it is full of friendly good bacteria that are great for helping your digestive system."

We can't wait to give it a try!

Guilt-free tipples...

Picture the scene… it’s a lovely warm evening, the sun is setting and the burgers are on the barbie; what’s the only thing that’s missing? A glass of something cold!

At Wobblegate in Bolney, West Sussex, they have plenty of tasty tipples to tempt you from their newly-revamped range of award-winning fruit juices.

Renamed Wobblegate Crushed Fruit Juices, they have a smart new look for this summer as well as two new flavours: Apple and Blueberry and Apple and Rhubarb.

The other fabulous flavours include Crushed Apple, Apple and Pear, Apple and Elderflower, Apple and Raspberry and Squeezed Breakfast. Delicious and healthy; yum!

Flavours of France

At award-winning restaurant Chez Vous in Warlingham, Surrey, they are renowned for their fine-quality French fare - and this summer is the perfect time to visit as they have some special offers running*. As well as doing two-for-one on their Summer Prix Fixe menu, they are also offering a three-course lunch for £17.95 and two-for-one on their Friday tasting menu.
